Birth anniversary celebrations are always
special and they become more special when it’s the 100th birth anniversary
celebrations. So, when it comes to the celebration of the centenary birth
anniversary of Late Sangeet Bhaskar Rajkumar Shyamanand Singh, well known
personalities from the music fraternity came together under one roof for a
special show. The event started with the garlanding of Sangeet bhaskar's big
portrait kept on the stage. People started rendering their homage and respect
to the large portrait.
It was a great privilege for
me being a great grandson of baba (Rajkumar Shyamanand Singh) I got an
opportunity to pay my musical tribute to him. The musical events of the day
started with me rendering raag bhairav. I sang two bandishes in this raag
"prabhu charan tore aayo" in jhaptaal and "jag jag jagga"
in drut teentaal. And now finally the time came when people would hear the
maestro, Pt Omkar Dadarkar live on the show. In his sweet and melodious voice
he started with raag miyan ki todi. The mellifluous singing of Pandit was
enough to take the listeners in a musical trance. In modern day very few people
are seen continuing their traditions Pt Omkar Dadarkar is one of them, taking
the musical legacy of his guru Pt Ulhas Khasalkar successfully to the next
generation. He ended his mesmerising performance with the very famous bhajan
"baje re muralia baje".
The accomplished Sarod player Pt Narendra
Nath Dhar was next to spellbound the music lovers. He being accompanied by the
tabla maestro Ustad Akram Khan was a perfect combination to struck the
listeners in a soothing musical storm. He performed raag aashavri. Now it was 2 in
the afternoon and the musical session came to a halt for the lunch.
The evening session
kickstarted with the magic of the icon of ajrara gharana Ustad Akram Khan on
tabla. The very special compositions of his gharana being played by him
flowlessly compelled the listeners to move their heads and feet on his tabla
beats. The audience were still in awe when the Ustad's performance ended and
then the Ustad was followed by the another Ustad of Agra gharana. Yes!! I am
talking of Ustad Waseem Ahmed Khan. Being from the great lineage of agra
gharanians Ustad's singing was enough to take the whole event to the next
level. The jam packed auditorium, the pin drop silence, the expressions of
music lovers wanting to never stop the wonderful evening was a clear symbol
that the program was already a grand success. Ustad Waseem Ahmed Khan sang the
beautiful "kaun gat bhaiye"in bageshwari followed by two
compositions in megh malhar "rim jhim rim jhim meha barse" and
"aaye aati dhum dham", the two very famous bandishes of the agra
gharanians. Finally the musical day came to an end with "bano baatiyan
kahe ko jhuti" in raag bhairvi by the Ustad.. An unforgettable day for the
music lovers of this small town Purnea has ended.
The program won't had been to
the level if these artists were not been accompanied by such great
accompanists. The wonderful accompaniment of Pt Sanjay Adhikari on tabla, the
melodious accompaniment of Ustad Sarwar Hussain on Sarangi and the mesmerising
accompaniment of Pt Hiranmay Mitra on harmonium were a key factor to turn the
event into a GRAND EVENT. To add to the event was the presence of Padma Shri
Gajendra Narayan Singh, a well known musicologist from Bihar.
